Archives Central Project
What is the project?
The Archives Central Project combines the region’s city, district and regional councils’ archives into one central database and will relocate the archives of the Horizons Regional Council and Rangitikei, Manawatu, Tararua, Horowhenua District Councils into a purpose built facility in Feilding - the Archives Central Repository.
When will this be available to search?
As of the 5 December 2011, the database offers comprehensive searching of lists and finding aids of the archives of Wanganui District Council, Palmerston North City Council, Horizons Regional Council, Tararua District Council, Manawatu District Council and Rangitikei District Council. Over the next seven months descriptive work on the archives of Horowhenua District Council will be carried out. This section of the Archives Central website will be updated when Horowhenua has been added.
Once the building work is completed, currently estimated for mid 2012, the archives of the other five councils will be physically moved into the new Feilding office, where they will be available for viewing.
When will the Rangitikei District Council archives be available to search?
The Rangitikei District Council archives listing is now avaliable on the Archives Central website (as at 5 December 2011) . Until the Archives Central building is completed in mid 2012, any enquiries about the archives of the district should be made at the Rangitikei District Council.
