Draft Bulls Old Courthouse and Gaol Management Plan
Change of reserve classication
The Council has notified the Minister of Conservation of its intention to seek a change in the classification, under the Reserves Act 1977, of the Bulls Old Courthouse from a 'local purpose (community building) reserve' to a 'historic reserve' over the entire site, including the former Gaol, at 104 Bridge Street, Bulls. This will enable greater flexibility over how the buildings can be used whilst still retaining the heritage value of both.
You are invited to lodge a written objection to this proposed change to the classification. Comment on the Reserve Management Plan for this reserve is a seperate matter detailed below.
Introduction
The Draft Bulls Courthouse and Gaol Management Plan (Part Two) should be read in conjuction with the Draft Historic Reserves Management Plan (Part One). In essence, the Part One Plan requires Council:
- to promote and encourage the use of Bulls Old Courthouse and Gaol for a range of heritage activities, and
- to identify and protect the unique characteristics of the Bulls Old Courthouse and Gaol and to enchance the heritage amenities
Council will achieve this through the general Part One policies:
- The Council will encourage community participation in the planning, development, management and maintenance of Bulls Old Courthouse and Gaol.
- To maintain and develop facilities at Bulls Old Courthouse and Gaol in close consultation with the local community to enchance the heritage values and opportunities.
- To encourage maximum use of Bulls Old Courthouse and Gaol by a range of different groups.
- To ensure as far as practical, the safety of users at Bulls Old Courthouse and Gaol.
This specific Management Plan (Part Two) outlines Council's plans for the future development of Bulls Old Courthouse and Gaol.
