Enjoying Life in the Rangitikei
Chair: Bronwyn Meads - Town Co-ordinator, Bulls and District
ELITR has defined four key future focus areas through its Results-Based Accountability and action planning processes. These are: Sports, Leisure and Recreation; Arts; Heritage; and Iconic Events. A sub-group formed around each of these focus areas.
- The actions the group is currently pursuing are intended to address these issues. A key outcome from the Enjoying Life in the Rangitikei group is the Swim 4 All programme. In 2011/12 the group partnered with the Water Safety New Zealand Swim-for-Life programme, with additional funds from Sport Wanganui, Whanganui Community Foundation and the Council’s Community Initiatives Fund to fund swimming lessons for every child in years 5-8 across the District. 887 Rangitikei children received up to 10 lessons at the pools in Marton and Taihape. This is the kind of initiative that is aimed to attract families to the District – a place where the safety of our children is given a high priority and the community works together to support families. The Enjoying Life group is keen to see this initiative continue for the 2012/13 summer, and it currently in the process of making applications for funding to deliver this programme.
If you think there is a way you or your organisation to contribute to the actions or goals, please do not hesitate to contact Emily Rogers at the Rangitikei District Council.
