What is a Resource Consent?

A resource consent is a written approval from the Council to use land in a manner that does not comply with the rules of the Rangitikei District Plan or is listed in the District Plan as an activity that requires a resource consent.

Why do you a need a Resource Consent?

Generally if you require a resource consent it is because your proposal will have an actual adverse affect on the environment or has the potential to have an adverse affect on the environment (environment can include people and built form).

How do I apply for Resource Consent?

We recommend that you talk your proposal through with council staff (mainly the Council Planner) before you fill in the application form. You should also contact the Council if you are unsure as to what forms to fill out and what information to provide.

There are forms applicable to the Resource Consent process available on the website:

  • Resource Consent (Land Use) Application - Form 9a
  • Notice of Written Approval by a Person Affected by an Application for Resource Consent
  • Change and/or Cancellation of Resource Consent Condition/s Application
  • Submission on a Resource Consent (only a publicly notified consent)

What is the District Plan?

The Council is required to prepare a District Plan under the Resource Management Act 1991. The Rangitikei District Plan became operative ion July 9 1999.

The District Plan is the primary document that manages land use and development within the Rangitikei District Council's territorial boundaries. The District Plan provides a single set of resource management provisions that apply to all rural and urban areas within the district territorial boundaries. Some of the provisions may affect you if you are wanting to build, subdivide or change the use of your land.
