The District Plan is a statutory document under the Resource Management Act 1991, and a review of the Plan is required at least once every 10 years. The plan contains the rules governing development in the District, and what type of activities may take place in particular areas. The plan also covers the key resource management issues for the District, and the objectives and policies for managing those issues.
The proposed Plan was notified on 28 October 2010 and submissions closed on 28 January 2011. Further submissions closed on 16 May 2011.
Hearings will be held from May 2012 to August 2012.

The Proposed Plan also incorporates a number of documents by reference (mainly New Zealand standards). Copies of these documents are available to view at the Council Office in Marton. Due to copyright restrictions on the New Zealand Standards, the Standards incorporated by reference are not available on the website, but may be purchased directly from Standards New Zealand.
