Call for Nominations - Community and Reserve Management Committees

Are you someone who cares about the direction of your community? Council are taking nominations for their community and reserve/domain management committees for the 2019-2022 triennium. If you want to be a voice for your community complete a nomination form, hand it in to Council and use this opportunity to be a voice for your community.

The Council has four community committees in the District. For the 2019-22 triennium community committees are to be elected by residents on the most recent District electoral roll who live within the ward that the principal town that the community committee represents, and that people nominated and people nominating them must reside within that area. Council is calling for nominations to the following community committees:

  • Bulls Community Committee
  • Hunterville Community Committee
  • Marton Community Committee
  • Turakina Community Committee

The purpose of these Committees is to provide a local link and point of contact for Council liaison with the community. It is also to help relay information back to Council and feed information out to the community, especially when Council is carrying out consultation such as its Long Term Plan, Annual Plan, Plan Changes and work affecting the community at large.

The makeup of the community committees will comprise of between seven to ten members and also one elected member from the ward that the committee resides in. Once the committees are formed members from that committee will appoint a chair.

Community committees should provide guidance and advice to the community on how to ensure that any minor remedial or renewal works.

Some projects community committees have been involved in are - new town signage, seating projects, planting projects and helping with grants.

Council also has two reserve management committees and one domain management committee. For the 2019-22 triennium Committee members be elected by residents on the most recent District electoral roll who live within a 20 km radius of the domain or reserve, and that people nominated and people nominating them must reside within that area. Council is calling for nominations to the following committees:

  • Turakina Reserve Management Committee
  • McIntryre Reserve Management Committee
  • Santoft Domain Management Committee

The purpose of the committee members is to act as caregivers for their area and progress the development of that area through a range of projects.

The makeup of these committees will comprise of six to eight members as well as one elected member from the ward that the committee resides in. Once the committees are formed members from that committee will appoint a chair.

Committee meetings will occur roughly every two months where members will go through an order paper that Council staff will put together. To find out more about what goes on in these meetings and look at previous order papers from different community committees go to Councils website and see what topics are discussed (www.rangitikei.govt.nz). A member of staff will attend these meetings to take minutes and answer any potential questions.

If elected as Chair for any of the relevant committees you will be required to attend a workshop on Chairing and running a meeting. If you have previously chaired a committee, you will still be required to attend this workshop.

Council are wanting to see a range of applicants apply to get a diverse group of people on these committees. This will ensure that the community, domain and reserve management committees can bring varying views to the table.
