Path to Well-Being

The Path to Well-being programme was introduced by the Council in 2010, with the aim to provide better services to ratepayers. In order to do this, working together with other agencies is essential. The programme broadly aligns to the Council's community outcomes which are:

  • Good Access to Health Services
  • A Safe and Caring Community
  • Lifelong Education Opportunities
  • A Treasured Natural Environment
  • A Buoyant District Economy
  • Enjoying Life in the Rangitikei

An important aspect of the Path to Well-being programme is the annual conference, which brings a range of agencies from throughout the District together to identify and address the most important issues within the Rangitikei District. The conferences are free to attend with the aim of encouraging as many people as possible to take part in these local development opportunities.

This year the conference, The Turning Point, was held on 10 February at Marton Memorial Hall. The theme was Asset based Community Development (ABCD) with particular reference to the growing community of Samoans who are settling in the southern part of our District.

There was a first-rate line up of international, national and local speakers. A full report of the event can be found here:

Further resources

There is an international network of ABCD practitioners but two of our presenters, Zizi Charida and Bronwyn Meads, had recently presented at the ABCD International Festival in Goa, India. That conference provided much of the inspiration for our conference. There are links to the presentations and a host of more resources that can be found at that website ( .

The organiser of the conference was Peter Kenyon from Bank of Ideas in Australia. Peter facilitated the first Path to Well-being conference in Taihape in 2010 and his organisation does a great job of communicating the latest ideas and developments in ABCD.
