Citizenship

Welcome to Rangitīkei! We love it here and we know you will too!

We look forward to personally meeting with you and welcoming you to our District. There's lots of information on our website about services provided in our region. Many services are free and will help you settle in if you're new to the area, or New Zealand.

Churches, our libraries and Community Groups are a great way to meet new people, and we encourage you to make contact.

Citizenship

Requests for New Zealand Citizenship must be made to the Department Of Internal Affairs - New Zealand Citizenship Office. You can contact the Citizenship Office by phone: 0800 225 151 or by looking at the website: http://www.citizenship.govt.nz/

Once the application process has been completed, the New Zealand Citizenship Office will contact Council and arrange for Council to hold a Citizenship Ceremony on its behalf. The ceremony is a public ceremony where applicants stand before the Mayor or other official, swear an Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance and receive their citizenship certificate.

Becoming a citizen in a public ceremony is a very important step in the process of becoming a New Zealand citizen. It is an opportunity for you to publicly declare your allegiance to New Zealand and for the local community to welcome you on behalf of all New Zealanders.
