Taihape - Napier Road

The Taihape-Napier road is now OPEN.

Our crew is currently removing the road closure barriers and reopening the road closure signage. Both lanes are open and clear but driver caution is advised as conditions could change. Thanks everyone for your patience.

12PM - 9 JULY 2020

The Taihape-Napier road will remain closed.

Temperatures out there are still low, with snow on the road still icy making the road unsafe for the public. Next update will at 1pm.


8AM - 9 JULY 2020

Taihape - Napier Road Closed

Our inspector has reported around 3-4cm of snow along the Taihape-Napier road this morning. The road will remain closed for the time being, with hopes of getting it open before lunchtime. There will be another update around 11am.


4.30PM - 8 JULY 2020

Taihape - Napier Road Closed

With snow in the forecast down to 600m in the Taihape region, the Taihape-Napier road today will close at 5pm tonight, Wednesday 8 July. Barriers will be in place at Moawhango settlement, Mangaohane/Taihape-Napier road junction and at the Kuripapango bridge and road closed signs at Fernhill.
An update on the road status will be given at 7:30am tomorrow morning (Thursday, 9 July).
