TAIHAPE-NAPIER ROAD CLOSURE

June 28, 2021

UPDATE: 2pm 30 June.

Taihape-Napier Road is now OPEN. Driver caution is advised due to uncertain weather conditions.



UPDATE: 11.40am 30 June.

With weather conditions improving, teams are currently on Taihape-Napier road clearing snow with a grader. However, the road will continue to remain CLOSED. Next update at 2pm.



UPDATE: 8.30am 30 June.

Napier-Taihape Road to remain CLOSED. Our inspector has reported 10-15cm of snow on the road and is still snowing in places. Next update 11am.


UPDATE: 29 June - 3pm.

There is still snow laying on parts of the Taihape-Napier road as it continues to snow and the forecast is for further snow showers to 300m, rising to 500m this evening. As a precaution the Taihape-Napier road will remain CLOSED overnight. Inspectors will reassess the road and weather condition in the morning and have an update at 8am tomorrow.



UPDATE: 29 June - 11.30am

Taihape-Napier Road is still Closed – There is 10-15cm snow in places and is still snowing. Next update at 3pm.



UPDATE: 8.15am 29 June

Our inspectors have reported 5-10cm of snow along the Taihape - Napier road this morning and is still snowing on and off.
The road will remain CLOSED. We will provide another update at 11am.


With snow and cold conditions in the forecast down to 600m in the Taihape region early tomorrow morning, we will be closing the Taihape Napier road today at 4pm.

Barriers will be in place at Taihape, Moawhango settlement, Mangaohane/Taihape Napier Road junction and at Fernhill. Our closure point at Moawhango will be unmanned overnight but will be manned during daylight hours tomorrow.

We will have inspectors out to check the road at 5am tomorrow morning, an update on the road status at will be given 8am.
