Next Steps

Engagement period with Central Government

We are currently involved in an eight-week engagement period with the Central Government until the end of September 2021. This period will allow the Council to understand the implications of reform for Rangitīkei better, ask questions, and provide feedback. This is why we are seeking your feedback via our survey. The purpose of this period is to provide time for all Councils to engage with and understand the large amount of information that has been released on the nature of the challenges facing the sector, the case for change, and the proposed package of reforms. During this period Council wish to identify issues of local concern and provide feedback to central government.

Council are not expected to make any formal decisions regarding the reform through this period and it does not trigger the need for formal consultation.

Public consultation

At the end of the engagement period, Central Government will consider the next steps for the reform programme and a new timeframe for decision-making, including any time required for public consultation with communities.
