Last Friday Mangarere Road residents celebrated the completion of a joint project by Rangitikei and Manawatu District Councils, under sunny skies. The Mangarere Bridge, a boundary bridge between the Rangitikei and Manawatu Districts, underwent an extensive, much needed, refurbishment during January to April this year. The bridge is a 97 meter long, one lane suspension bridge built over the Rangitikei River in 1966 and serves 15 properties.

Construction Company Bailey Civil undertook the project and Calibre Consulting designed the new deck units. Jim Mestyanek, Project Engineer, said he was impressed with how the Mangarere Road residents coped with the inconvenience the refurbishment caused and thanked everyone who worked collaboratively on the project. Mayor of Rangitikei Andy Watson, Mayor of Manawatu Margaret Kouvelis and local resident Mrs Isobelle Fallaver cut the ribbon across the bridge to formally open the refurbished bridge.
