Public Meeting - Proposed Bulls Multi-purpose Centre

August 03, 2016

In June 2013 the Rangitikei District Council confirmed its intention to proceed with the development of a new multi-purpose centre in Bulls. This confirmation was part of the Council’s 2015-25 Long Term Plan (LTP) and it was anticipated that the new centre would be completed in late 2017.

The Bulls Multi-purpose Centre will allow for the Library, Information Centre and Town Hall to come together under one roof, and would make provision for community groups such as Plunket and the Bulls Friendship Club. The Centre will be built on part of the old Criterion Hotel site. Council has an agreement in place to purchase the land necessary for the new Centre.

The total cost of the project is expected to be $3.61M. The LTP signalled a rates-funded budget provision of $1.6M (funded district-wide), with the remainder of the funding coming from other sources – such as the sale of surplus property, lotteries and community funding trusts. At least $100,000 of the external funding is to be raised within the Bulls community. A similar funding model will apply to the development of new facilities programmed in the LTP for Marton and Taihape.

Over the last 6 months work has been underway on developing a draft design for the new Centre. A group with representatives from the Bulls community (Bulls Community Committee, Bulls and District Community Trust and local Iwi) have been working with Council and the architects (Architect Workshop) to develop the design for the new Centre.

A draft design and costings for the new Centre have been prepared, so it’s an opportune time to share these with the Bulls community. Feedback will be invited on the proposed design and this will help ensure we get the best possible facility for Bulls.

You’re invited to a public meeting to introduce the proposed design for a new Bulls multi-purpose centre.
