Bruce Park Children 1200

Media release

February 2017

Long tailed bats, large native trees and fungi are some of the attractions at Bruce Park Toyota Kiwi Guardian site just south of Hunterville.

Getting kids more connected to nature with FREE family-friendly, treasure hunt style activities at specific Department of Conservation sites encourages them to engage with the outdoors and, ultimately, earn themselves a medal for their efforts.

Bruce Park is on Aldworth Rd, adjacent to State Highway One, which used to run through the park until the road was diverted around the area. With any luck you should be able to see bellbirds in the large stands of totara, rimu and kahikatea trees.

There are 49 other sites nationwide with a variety of activities, wildlife to see and native fauna and flora to be discovered.

Toyota Kiwi Guardians is a joint initiative between the Department of Conservation and Toyota New Zealand.

The goal of the conservation programme is to turn Kiwi kids into guardians of the land and sea.

Families can get started on their Kiwi Guardians adventure by downloading the appropriate “treasure hunt” map from: www.kiwiguardians.co.nz

Click on the Manawatu / Whanganui area of the map to find out the full details about the site and then plan your adventure.
