At its Council meeting on Thursday, 27 February 2020, Council confirmed a single-storey amenities block would be built on Taihape Memorial Park.

This decision rescinds Council’s previous decision, made in June 2019, to build a two-storey building to house an amenity block and provide a community facility on the second storey, in conjunction with Clubs Taihape through a Memorandum of Understanding.

The single storey amenities block will be located between the number 3 field and the tennis / netball courts and will only house amenities (toilets, showers) and not a community facility that had previously been planned for the top floor.

Ms Prince, Community and Leisure Services Team Leader, said “in making this decision Council considered feedback from the users of the Memorial Park and Taihape community. The next step is to get a final design, taking into consideration feedback from key users, and tender the project.”
