New Zealand is at Alert Level 4

From 11.59pm Tuesday 17 August ALL OF NEW ZEALAND moved into COVID-19 Alert Level 4.

Face coverings are now mandatory for most public places under Alert Level 4.

Key things to note

  • Positive cases of COVID-19 has been identified in the Auckland community.
  • In response, New Zealand moved to Alert Level 4 at 23:59pm Tuesday 17 August for seven days with a review at day three.
  • A 48 hour grace period has been made available for people needing to return to their home.

Testing Advice

  • If you were not at a location of interest at the stated times and you have no symptoms you do not need to be tested.
  • If you were at the locations of interest at the times stated, you need to get a test.
  • If you have symptoms but have not been to a location of interest stay home and call Healthline for advice.
  • The most up to date information on COVID-19 testing locations can be found the Ministry of Health’s website.

What to do at Alert Level 4

  • Stay in your immediate household bubble and only go out for essential personal movements and doing essential work.
    • Safe recreational activity is allowed in a person’s local area
    • Limit all travel to essential needs or work
    • People should keep 2 metres apart from people outside their bubble when outside their household
    • Face coverings are required when out in public and on all public transport and domestic flights
  • Businesses are closed except for essential services, such as:
    • Supermarkets
    • Pharmacies
    • Medical clinics
    • Petrol stations
    • Lifeline utilities
    • The full list of businesses and services able to operate at Alert Level 4 will be updated on Business.govt.nz
  • Healthcare
    • Hospitals operate in line with the National Hospital Response Framework.
    • Primary and community health providers will operate in line with the Community Response Framework.
    • Only urgent acute care is conducted in person, maintaining public health guidelines. Routine care is postponed.
    • Residential facilities remain open with strict visitor policies. In- home visiting required for priority populations.
    • Pharmacies remain open.

  • All public facilities are closed. This includes libraries, museums, gyms, pools, playgrounds and farmer’s markets

Face coverings

  • Face coverings are recommended to be worn while in public and indoor places where social distancing of 2 metres is not possible. Face coverings are required when on public transport.

Keeping track of where you have been

  • To stop any future spread of COVID-19, we all need to do the 3 Ws:
    • Where we have been
    • When we were there
    • Who we met
  • Using the NZ COVID Tracer app is the best way to do this.
  • Everyone should scan QR codes using the COVID Tracer app and turn Bluetooth on to help stop the spread of Covid-19.
