Pedestrian Footpath Closure – Urgent Safety Improvements Verandah

March 23, 2021

UPDATE: 1 April 2021

The footpath is now open. Propping has been installed under the verandah and the fencing has now been removed. Thank you for your patience.

The pedestrian footpath around the corner of Broadway and High Street (towards the Broadway shops) was closed at 1pm on Tuesday, 23 March. This is the result of a potential safety risk due to the deterioration of the overhanging verandah of the buildings owned by Rangitīkei District Council.

While we are investigating options to eliminate any potential risk, the footpath must remain closed. We are working with urgency on a solution but at this stage it is expected the footpath will remain closed for at least 2 to 3 weeks.

Foot traffic has been diverted and signage installed to show pedestrians where they will need to walk, but we ask pedestrians and drivers to take extra caution while the walkway is closed to allow safe crossings for pedestrians.

Access to Marton Seafoods is not affected and will remain open as normal.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your co-operation.

If you have any concerns or queries regarding this work please contact Adina Foley at the Rangitīkei District Council on 027 252 3096.
