Mayor Andy and Cr Brian Carter are pictured handing over the flag to Mr Kevin Ellery (Chairperson) and Ian McKelvie (MP Rangitīkei & Patron of the Bulls & District Historical Society).

Council was pleased to confirm acceptance of the Bulls & District Historical Society’s offer to take full ownership, and arrange the preservation, of the Rangitīkei Cavalry Flag.

“The flag is an important local historical object and the enthusiasm and expertise from the Society’s Committee to ensure the flag will be preserved appropriately is a positive outcome for all,” said Mayor Andy Watson.

The Mayor and Cr Brian Carter attended a small gathering at Te Matapihi to officially handover the artefact.

The delicate nature of the flag means it will not be on display to the public but will ensure it is correctly preserved.
