Water restrictions implemented in Marton

Water Restriction ALL Level 1 Web News Image

High daily weather temperatures and an increase of water use in Marton has caused the Marton Reservoir water level to drop to significantly low levels.

From today Council is implementing water restrictions. The imposed are:

Level 1 - When the level at the town reservoir falls below 50% we will impose water restrictions, only allowing handheld hose watering of gardens between 4pm and 8pm, daily. There will be a complete ban on the use of sprinklers at any time of the day.

Given the weather forecast we are implementing Level 1 restrictions immediately.

We also ask residents and businesses to continue to conserve as much water as possible until the reservoir levels have returned to normal.

Weekly updates will given. See Water Marton Reservoir to view updated water levels and tips on conserving water in and around your home.

Further restrictions will be implemented if necessary.

Water Restriction Guide

Council will advise the community when Water Restriction levels are active and if level changes need to be made.

Water Restriction LevelAction to be taken
Level 1When the level at the town reservoir falls below 50% we will impose water restrictions, only allowing handheld hose watering of gardens between 4pm and 8pm, daily. There will be a complete ban on the use of sprinklers at any time of the day.
Level 2If the reservoir level continues to drop to below 45% we will impose restrictions on watering gardens; washing of hard surfaces and cars, only allowing this between 4pm and 8pm, on alternate days, depending on your street number. [Odd numbers one day and even numbers the next day.]
Level 3If the water level drops below 40%, all water use, other than for normal household use (such as cooking and washing) and outside use of hoses or sprinklers will be not allowed at all times.

Level 4

If the water level drops to 35% we will use the Calico Line bore to assist the normal water supply. [Unfortunately this could produce some colour in the town water supply, and we would prefer not to make use of it, until absolutely necessary.]
