Rangitīkei District Libraries and Information Centres have turned the old Marton ICT Hub into Youth Headquarters, a new space for rangatahi which will be open from 3:00pm until 4:30pm on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Youth Headquarters includes computers, video games, books, bean bags and board games for kids to enjoy after school, and gives them a safe place to chill out, with supervision provided by Council staff. Children over the age of nine are able to come unsupervised.

The space was officially opened on Monday, 18 March with 16 tamariki in attendance, as well as others from the community.

Elsewhere in the youth space, our new Youth Councillors had an induction weekend in Ōpunake, where they learned more about each other, and the role of a youth councillor, and what they do for youth in our district. We’ve got a fantastic team of people for this next year and we’re excited to see what they produce with Council support.
