Construction underway on new Emergency Operations Centre

Construction is now underway on Rangitīkei District Council’s new Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), on the corner of High Street and Grey Street in Marton.

September 03, 2026

EOC Construction

The purpose-built facility will provide a dedicated location for coordinating the district’s response during a major emergency.

During an emergency, an EOC acts as the central coordination point for Council staff, emergency services and other agencies, helping to manage things such as road closures, damaged infrastructure, welfare support, communications and the wider response and recovery effort.

The new building is being constructed to Importance Level 4 (IL4) standard, which is required for facilities that need to remain operational following a major emergency.

Rangitīkei currently does not have an existing Council building in the district that meets IL4 requirements.

With construction now underway, residents and businesses around High Street and Grey Street can expect increased activity, construction traffic and periods of noise as different stages of the project are completed.

Construction will generally take place between 7:00am and 5:00pm on weekdays, and 8:00am and 1:00pm on Saturday's if required.

Construction and contractor vehicles will park on High Street (between Grey and Skerman Street) and will not park on Grey Street, recognising the narrow residential nature of Grey Street and to minimise disruption to neighbouring properties and access.

Council will continue to work with the contractor to minimise disruption to nearby residents and businesses as much as reasonably possible while work is underway.
