Motorists travelling along Taihape–Napier Road are advised to expect some delays over the coming week as culvert replacement works get underway.
November 02, 2026
Rangitīkei District Council's roading contractors, Downer, will begin replacing five existing corrugated iron culverts with new smooth-lined polyethylene pipes on Tuesday 3 November 2026.
The worksites are located between Kelly Road and Mangaohane Road, approximately 29km from the intersection of Te Moehau Road and Taihape–Napier Road.
Work is expected to take approximately one week, with completion anticipated on Tuesday 10 November, weather and site conditions permitting.
What motorists need to know
Taihape–Napier Road will remain open throughout the works. However, motorists may experience delays while crews excavate trenches across the road and install the new culverts.
Temporary traffic management will be in place, and 30km/h speed restrictions will remain following installation until sealing work has been completed.
Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys, follow temporary traffic management instructions and take care when travelling through the worksites.
Council thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation while this important road maintenance work is carried out.
