Marton town centre improvements getting underway
Maintenance and improvement work in the Marton town centre is scheduled to begin on Sunday 18 October, addressing issues with existing paving, garden beds and street furniture.
October 15, 2026
The work will include the removal of eight large trees, which have been causing damage to the surrounding paving as their roots grow and push up the tiles.
Some existing planting will also be removed, and garden beds reshaped to help prevent soil and garden debris spilling onto paved areas. The gardens will then be replanted.
As part of the improvements, existing seating, stage and fairy garden structures will be removed, with new, more user-friendly street furniture installed.
Replacement paving will also be installed to address the tree damaged areas and where garden reshaping is completed.
This work is being done with money received by Council through Better Off Funding, meaning there is no cost to ratepayers.
What to expect while work is underway
Council is working to minimise disruption to businesses, pedestrians and visitors while the improvements are carried out.
There will be some construction activity in the town centre over the coming weeks, and people are asked to take care around work areas and follow any temporary signage or directions.
The improvements are scheduled to be completed well ahead of Marton's Market Day on Saturday 28 November, ensuring the town centre is ready for one of its busiest events of the year.
Council thanks businesses, residents and visitors for their patience while this work is undertaken.
