Waitangi Day 2026

Council offices, the Marton Community Hub and our waste transfer stations will be closed on Waitangi Day, Friday 6 February.

Marton Level 1 Water Restrictions to be lifted

Council would like to thank Marton residents for their water conservation efforts over the past month, which has enabled the operations team at the Marton Water Treatment Plant to replenish the treated water reservoir.

Domestic Water Tanker

It has been sitting consistently between 90 and 100 percent for the past four days.

As a result, the operations team have advised that the Level 1 Water Restrictions can be lifted. This means that people will be able to:

  1. Resume using sprinklers
  2. Water gardens at any time of the day
  3. Wash vehicles with hose pipes

We still encourage people to conserve water where they can, as the operations team will be doing some maintenance work which include de-sludging the second clarifier of the Marton Water Treatment Plant, and flushing of the reticulation network

Pipe flushing helps to remove mineral build up in the pipes, basically cleaning the reticulated network. When this work occurs near your property, you may notice discolouration in the water, but this is normal and is normally rectified by running your own taps for 10 minutes, or until the water runs clear.

If you do have to run your taps, try to collect the water and use it for purposes around the house like watering plants or cleaning.

Water tanker service to be offered to Marton residents (published Wednesday 7 January 2026)

As many of you will have noticed, the geosmin levels in Marton's water supply has been elevated for a number of weeks.

Our reticulation team will continue to fine tune the treatment process of the water to make improvements, but we recognise that it can take some time for the geosmin levels to settle down.

With that in mind, Council will be offering residents free water from a water tank at the Marton RSA and Citizens Memorial Hall. This water will be coming from our reticulated supply in Hunterville.

  • What: A water tanker carrying drinking water from outside Marton
  • Where: The Marton RSA and Citizens Memorial Hall
  • When: Each Tuesday and Thursday between 3:00pm and 6:30pm, starting Tuesday 13 January 2026
  • How long: Residents will have access to this alternative drinking water source until further notice

Residents will need to bring their own containers to collect the water - please be patient and mindful of others. Should residents have any accessibility concerns or queries, they are encouraged to reach out to our team who will work to find a solution on 06 327 0099 or info@rangitikei.govt.nz.

We would like to thank residents for their ongoing patience regarding this ongoing issue. We know it is frustrating, but rest assured progress is being made towards our new water source solution.
