More funding success for Marton Swim Centre
Rangitīkei District Council has successfully secured more than $260,000 in funding from New Zealand Lotteries to support the refurbishment of the Marton Swim Centre.

The $260,869 grant will contribute towards the $6 million redevelopment project, which is now underway. Council has pursued external funding opportunities to help reduce the overall cost of the project to ratepayers.
Rangitīkei District Mayor Andy Waton said the funding was a significant boost for both the project and the wider community.
"We're incredibly grateful to New Zealand Lotteries for backing this project. Every dollar of external funding we receive helps reduce the burden on our ratepayers while allowing us to invest in this important community facility that will be enjoyed for many years to come." Lotto NZ Head of Corporate Communications Will Hine says Lotto players from around the motu helped make this community project a reality.
“A special shout out goes to Lotto players in Marton and the wider Rangitīkei area, who will be able to enjoy this fantastic new swim centre.
“Last year, $395 million in lottery funding supported more than 3,000 organisations and initiatives across New Zealand. It’s wonderful to see that funding in action.”
Contractors Alaska Construction + Interiors have recently begun work on site, marking an exciting milestone in the long-planned refurbishment.
Once completed, the upgraded facility will provide a modern, more functional and more resilient aquatic centre for the district, ensuring local families, schools, swimming clubs and recreational users continue to have access to a high-quality community swimming pool.
Deputy Mayor Dave Wilson, who also chairs Council's Assets/Infrastructure Committee, reiterated that the project is about much more than upgrading a building.
"Facilities like the Marton Swim Centre play an important role in the health and wellbeing of our communities. They're places where kids learn vital water safety skills, families spend time together, and people of all ages can stay active. This investment helps ensure those opportunities continue well into the future," says Dave.
The Lotteries grant is the second successful external funding application Council has secured for the project. Earlier this year, the New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) awarded a further $75,000 towards the refurbishment.
Council remains optimistic that further external support can be secured for the project.
"We're committed to exploring every funding opportunity available. Securing grants like these means we can deliver important projects while reducing the pressure on ratepayers. We are hopeful there will be more positive announcements to come," adds Mayor Andy.
The Marton Swim Centre refurbishment is expected to be completed in time for the 2027/28 summer season.
