NOTICE OF CONSULTATION


Draft Control of Dog Bylaw and Draft Dog Control and Owner Responsibility Policy


Pursuant to section 156 of the Local Government Act and the relevant sections of the Dog Control Act 1996, Rangitīkei District Council is seeking feedback on its draft Control of Dog Bylaw (Bylaw) and draft Dog Control and Owner Responsibility Policy (Policy).

The draft Bylaw and Policy propose amendments to the Dog Control and Owner Responsibility Policy adopted in 2016 and the Dog Control Bylaw adopted in 2016 and amended in 2020. The Bylaw and Policy set out the rules and approach for managing dogs across the Rangitīkei District, including dog exercise and prohibited areas, requirements for controlling dogs, responsible dog ownership, and Council’s enforcement approach.

Submissions


Submissions open on Monday, 14 September 2026 and close at 5.00 pm on Friday, 16 October 2026.

You can make a submission:

  • Online using the consultation form
  • By email to submissions@rangitikei.govt.nz
  • In person by completing a hard-copy submission form, available from Council’s service centres and libraries, and returning it to one of our customer service centres in Marton, Bulls or Taihape.

Council will consider all submissions it receives and plans to hear from those who wish to speak to their submission at a hearing on the 05 November 2026. If you would like to speak at the hearing, please indicate this in your submission.
