Community Engagement Officer - Venues & Events

Community Engagement Officer – Venues and Events

Permanent part-time | 20 hours per week | Te Matapihi, Bulls

Our community hubs and venues are more than buildings. They are places where people come together to connect, celebrate, learn, access support, discover local stories, and feel part of the Rangitīkei community.

We are looking for a friendly, organised, and practical person to join Rangitīkei District Council as our Community Engagement Officer – Venues and Events. This role supports events, venue bookings, community hub services, visitor centre activities, and customer service at Te Matapihi.

This is a hands-on, community-facing role where no two days will be quite the same. You might be helping a group prepare for a local event, supporting a meeting with AV equipment, setting up a hall, welcoming visitors, processing bookings, answering customer enquiries, or helping someone connect with Council services and community information.
This is a permanent part-time role of 20 hours per week. The facility operates seven days a week, and the successful applicant will be required to work either one or both weekend days (Saturday and/or Sunday), depending on the roster. From time to time, there may be flexibility to swap weekend days by agreement with the manager.

What you’ll be doing:

• Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of events, activities, meetings, and venue bookings at Te Matapihi and other Council venues.
• Provide welcoming, helpful customer service to venue users, visitors, community groups, new residents, and customers accessing Council services.
• Assist with visitor centre services, including providing local information, promoting attractions and events, and keeping promotional material up to date.
• Prepare halls, meeting rooms, and event spaces for use, including frequently lifting, carrying, and moving tables, chairs, staging components, and other equipment.
• Provide practical AV and IT support for meetings and events, helping hirers and customers use equipment confidently.

What you’ll bring:

• Experience in customer service, events, administration, venue coordination, tourism, community services, or another public-facing role.
• A friendly, welcoming approach and a genuine commitment to providing helpful, respectful, customer-first service.
• Strong organisation and communication skills, with the ability to manage bookings, enquiries, event details, and practical tasks.
• Confidence using digital systems, online tools, and AV/IT equipment to support meetings and events.

What we offer:

• Personalised career and development plans
• Tailored wellness benefits
• Supportive and inclusive workplace

The closing date for this role is 5.00 pm on Sunday 19 July 2026, however applications will be reviewed and progressed as they come in, so get in early!
