Supporting local economic activity is about helping businesses, developers, iwi, community groups, and partners access the right information, connections, and opportunities to contribute to positive outcomes for our district.

We are looking for an Economic Advisor to join Rangitīkei District Council and provide practical, relationship-focused support to those who contribute to local economic outcomes. In this role, you will help people understand and navigate Council processes, connect them with the right people, and support initiatives that encourage town centre vibrancy, business development, workforce outcomes, and wider economic activity across the district.

You will be outgoing, approachable, and confident, with the ability to connect with a wide range of people, listen well, and understand what they are trying to achieve. You will put relationships at the centre of every interaction and be comfortable presenting information or speaking with groups when needed.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support business and development enquiries by helping people navigate Council processes, access relevant information, and connect with the right people.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with businesses, developers, iwi, community groups, industry representatives, government agencies, regional partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Support the delivery of economic development initiatives aligned with Council’s Economic Strategy, Rangitīkei Tomorrow.
  • Coordinate town centre revitalisation and related projects that support vibrant, active, and welcoming town centres.
  • Support employment and workforce outcomes, including initiatives connected to the Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs.


What you’ll bring:

  • Experience working with businesses, developers, community stakeholders, partner agencies, or similar groups.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Confidence engaging with others, speaking publicly, and presenting information clearly.
  • Experience supporting or delivering projects, initiatives, events, programmes, or community-focused activities.
  • Good digital, reporting, and information management skills, with the ability to keep accurate records and manage information well.
