Senior/Policy Analyst

As our Senior/Policy Analyst, you will provide high-quality analysis and advice on complex local government policy issues. You will play a key part in ensuring that Council’s strategies, policies, and plans are grounded in evidence, comply with relevant legislation, and reflect the needs and priorities of the community. Your work will enable informed decision-making and help shape initiatives that deliver meaningful outcomes for our district.

This is a permanent role; however, we could be flexible with hours and location for the right candidate.
He aha te mahi| What you will do
- Lead or support the development of key Council policies and planning projects
- Provide clear, evidence-based advice to inform strategic decision-making
- Monitor legislation and emerging trends to keep policies current and compliant
- Prepare high-quality reports, submissions, and discussion papers
- Contribute to the Long-Term Plan and Annual Plan to align with Council priorities
- Enhance Council’s partnership with iwi and demonstrate a clear understanding of the intent of, and commitment to, the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Ko wai to Pukeka| What you will bring
- A tertiary qualification in public policy, planning, political science, or a related discipline
- Excellent understanding of local government legislation, processes, and policy frameworks
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects, work collaboratively, and influence at all levels
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with strong political and strategic awareness
- Ideally this role is suited for a senior level (5+ years local government experience), but could be rescoped for someone with less experience
