Building and Resource Consents over Christmas

  • Any Building and Resource Consents submitted after Monday 21 December 2020 will not start to be processed until Monday 11 January 2021 due to the Christmas/ New Year break.
  • If you want your Building and/or Resource Consent to be processed before Christmas (barring any further information requests which stop the working day processing clock), it needs to be submitted by no later than Monday 23 November 2020.
Building Act 2004
working day means any day except—
(a) Saturday, Sunday, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, the Sovereign’s Birthday, Labour Day, and Waitangi Day; and
(ab) if Waitangi Day or Anzac Day falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, the following Monday; and
(b) the day observed in the appropriate area as the anniversary of the province of which the area forms a part; and
(c) a day in the period beginning on 20 December in any year and ending with the close of 10 January in the following year.
A working day is defined in the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) as:
“working day means a day of the week other than—
(a) a Saturday, a Sunday, Waitangi Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, the Sovereign's birthday, and Labour Day; and
(b) if Waitangi Day or Anzac Day falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, the following Monday; and
(c) a day in the period commencing on 20 December in any year and ending with 10 January in the following year.”
The definition of working day within the RMA cannot be changed through regulations.
