Taihape to Napier Route open to High Productivity Motor Vehicles (HPMV)

August 12, 2021

From Friday 20 August 2021, the Taihape to Napier Route will be open to HPMV vehicles.

Opening this route requires all heavy vehicles using the Moawhango Bridge (Te Moehau Road) to travel at 10km/hr across the bridge. The Moawhango Bridge is the large truss bridge close to Moawhango Village.

The 10km/hr restriction will be removed once the bridge truss has been strengthened. The truss strengthening work will cause much less disruption to traffic than the recent Kuripapango Bridge project. If any road closures were required, they will be for limited periods and carried out in consultation with bridge users.

As with other HPMV routes, Waka Kotahi (NZTA) are the agency that issues the required permits.
