Senior Accountant (2-year Fixed Term)

We’re on the lookout for a sharp accounting professional to support our Manager Finance and Partnerships through the Local Water Done Well (LWDW) transition.

This isn’t your everyday finance role; it’s your chance to be right at the heart of change as we transition council’s water services into a brand-new Council Controlled Organisation (CCO). You’ll join a small, energised team where your ideas matter, and you’ll help build something from the ground up that will make a real difference for our communities.

This is a 2-year fixed-term role based in Marton.

He kōrero mōu | About You

You’re detailed, focused and confident. You bring accuracy and problem solving to financial processes and modelling and are ready to support the Manager Finance & Partnerships to ensure a smooth transition to the new CCO.

Āu ake mahi | What you will do

  • Support transition to new CCO by assisting the Manager Finance and Partnerships to ensure smooth operations and accurate financial handover of the three waters to the new CCO
  • Complete reconciliation of borrowings, work in progress, liabilities, reserves, GL accounts and rating accounts related to the transitioning three waters services
  • Identify open contracts, penalties and interim invoicing arrangements during the transfer process
  • Handle monthly accounting of set up costs, determine shareholders equity and provide financial reports as needed
  • Assist in the preparation of financial information and reports as and when required including supporting/backing up the Manager Finance and Partnerships

Ngā tohu me ngā wheako | What you will bring

  • Tertiary level qualification(degree), with an accounting major.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an intermediate level accounting role, ideally within a local government environment
  • Experience in managing large data sets and modelling and analysis of financial information
  • A strong team player with the proven ability to work well with and interact successfully with other people
  • Ability and willingness to learn and adapt to new technology and software in a continually changing environment
