Outward Bound

Outward Bound and The Mayors Taskforce for Jobs have secured funding to enable 14 rangatahi from MTFJ to attend Outward Bound’s Whakatipu course.

Whakatipu means growth and with a focus on the key skills that today’s employers are looking for participants will grow skills in work ethic, communication, problem solving and decision making, teamwork, self-management, confidence and resilience.

The Whakatipu course is for rangatahi aged 16 – 18 years old who are on vocational pathways to employment through Gateway, Trades Academy, Services Academy or who may be engaged in programmes delivered locally to help support their work readiness and transition into employment. Having exposure to the world of work is a pre-requisite so that participants can apply the learnings from the course to situations at home after their time at Outward Bound.

These scholarships are available between 29th July – 5th August 2023 and are valued at $3,496 per person which covers the full course fee for the 8 day programme. Not included are the separate costs of travel to Picton for course start and the cost of a doctor’s appointment to get the Outward Bound medical form completed. Outward Bound will discuss transport options and the medical form during the enrolment process once a participant has been booked on.

Below is a brochure with some more info on the Whakatipu programme. If you would like to nominate someone or find out more, please contact Krishan Kumar, Community Development Partner at Outward Bound, via email: kkumar@outwardbound.co.nz or by phone: 04 282 1091.
