From Monday, 29 April, drainage improvement works are planned to take place on SH1 underneath the railway overbridge, near Calico Line. During this time, a pump station will be installed which will help reduce the amount of surface flooding which can occur in this area from time to time.

Crews will be on site from Monday 29 April to Wednesday 8 May between 8:00am - 5:00pm weekdays, including Saturday if needed.

During these daytime work hours, the northbound lane of SH1 will be closed with a detour in place.

The northbound detour will be sign posted and is as follows:

Left onto Wings Line, right onto French Street, left onto Matai Street, right onto Main Street and straight ahead onto Nga Tawa Road, right on Calico Line and back to SH1.

There is no detour for southbound traffic – road users will continue through the site on SH1, with a reduced speed limit in place. A partial road closure and detour in this area is needed due to the width of the road and health and safety requirements.

The northbound detour is HPMV approved and is expected to add 5 minutes to journey times. The detour will not be in place outside of worktimes. The overall project is expected to be completed by late June, with much of the work occurring off the state highway.

Temporary traffic management, including a reduced speed limit through the site, will remain in place while the project is continuing. These works are dependent on a number of factors and may be rescheduled or postponed at short notice.

Please keep up to date on our Journey Planner and social media channels, for any updates. NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is reminding road users to plan for the additional delays and we want to thank people for their patience during the work.
