Information on standing

We’re thrilled you’re interested in standing for Rangitīkei District Council or one of our Community Boards. Candidate nominations are open from Friday 4 July 2025 and close at midday on Friday 1 August 2025.

On Monday 30th June we will be holding two candidate information sessions with those interested in standing. These are open to anyone thinking about standing for election this year - whether you're interested in standing for Council, or one of the Community Boards.

At these information sessions, you will have a chance to talk with our Electoral Officer, Warwick Lampp, and key council staff about the campaign process.

Candidate Information Handbook

Our candidate information handbook can help you decide if standing for election is going to be the right thing for you and your family or loved ones. The nomination process involves:

  • Obtaining nominations from two people - candidates cannot nominate themselves, and people who nominate candidates must be over 18 years old and enrolled to vote in the area the candidate is planning to stand.
  • Candidates must consent to their nomination going forward.
  • Completing an official nomination form and sending to the Council’s electoral officer.

A $200 deposit must be paid when you submit your nomination for each position you run for. This may be refunded depending on election results.

Planning and time management are key to ensuring you have a smooth nomination process. Just because nominations aren't open until 4th July, doesn't mean you can't start preparing your campaign and discussing your intention to stand with your community.
