Te Rōpū Ahi Kā (TRAK)

The purpose of Te Rōpū Ahi Kā (TRAK) is to assist the Council to develop a partnership through engagement with Tangata Whenua. As well, it is to identify and advise on issues of concern to Tangata Whenua, the Ratana Community and Council, and facilitate resolution in the best interests of the residents, ratepayers, and Tangata Whenua of the Rangitīkei District.

Māori of Rangitīkei are represented on Te Rōpū Ahi Kā by members of Ngati Rangituhia, Ngati Whitikaupeka, Ngati Parewahawaha, Ngati Hauiti, Ngati Ariki Turakina, Kauangaroa / Nga Wairiki, Ngati Kauae /Tauira, Ngati Hinemanu / Ngati Paki, Whangaehu, Ngati Tama Kopiri, the Rātana Community, as well as two elected members of the Rangitikei District Council.

Te Anga Whakahaere

Te Anga Whakahaere establishes a single, coherent document for the governance, operation, relationship, and conduct of the Komiti, Te Rōpū Ahi Kā.

It brings together three key governance components:

• Tūtohinga - Memorandum of Understanding (MoU): Establishes how the two parties agree to work together.
• Tūtohinga - Terms of Reference (ToR): Sets out what the komiti is authorised to do and how.
• Tikanga Whakahaere - Code of Conduct: Sets out the behavioural standards expected of members.

Komiti Meetings

Meetings are open to the public, unless there are specific items which TRAK resolves to consider ‘public excluded’.

At least two working days before any scheduled meeting, meeting papers are available online or in hard copy at the libraries in Taihape, Marton and Bulls and the Marton Council office.
