Mayor Andy Watson is ecstatic that the three-year consultation and community engagement process with the Bulls and wider community is about to take shape. Building is scheduled to begin before Christmas.

A sod-turning ceremony is scheduled to happen before actual building work commences and the public will be invited to take part. An archaeologist from Heritage NZ will be on site while earth-moving works occur to ensure that any artefacts are identified and protected.

Mayor Watson said the community has produced a fabulous civic centre design and really got behind fundraising for the venture. He said it shows what a motivated and engaged community is capable of when they get together as one.

The creation of the new town hall, library and information centre complex was hastened by new earthquake legislation which made the current town hall unfit for purpose. This allowed the Council and community to design a future-proof centre which brought together amenities and services for the community, and allowing greater efficiencies and safety for council staff.
