CouncilMARK Assessment

In March 2017 Council took part in a 2-day assessment as part of our membership of the Local Government Excellence Programme (LGEP). The assessment was undertaken by two independent assessors against 90+ performance indicators/measures across 4 key areas:

  1. Governance, Leadership and Strategy
  2. Financial Decision-making and Transparency
  3. Service Delivery and Asset Management
  4. Communications and Engaging with the Public and Business

The purpose of the LGEP, and Council’s participation in it, was to have a credible, transparent framework within which Council’s performance could be benchmarked and improvement opportunities identified - and acted on. The framework incorporates a 9-point rating scale – from C to AAA. While the LGEP is about promoting excellence and driving continuous improvement within councils, it's also about demonstrating performance and improvement to residents, ratepayers and other stakeholders. All assessment reports, once finalised, are automatically released to the public/media by LGNZ.

Rangitīkei achieved an assessment of BB (generally competent but with a higher rating for its financial decision-making and transparency). The full report can be found here.

Council has committed to having its second assessment in August 2021.
