Councils

Rangitīkei District Council takes care of managing and looking after our District. We provide important services like taking care of roads, community buildings and your water supply, and work hard to make our community a great place to live.

Horizons Regional Council takes care of our natural resources and environment in the Rangitīkei District. They’re also responsible for natural resources in the wider Horizons region, from Ruapehu and Horowhenua to Whanganui and Tararua. They work to protect our land, water, air, plants and animals.

Rubbish and recycling

Rubbish collection services are provided by private companies in Rangitīkei. We also have six waste stations across the District that accept rubbish to landfill, a range of recyclables and various household hazardous waste products.

Find more information on the available waste management services.

Voting

Local government elections take place every three years across New Zealand, including elections for the Rangitīkei District Council, Community Boards, and the Horizons Regional Council. If you are eligible to vote, make sure to update your details at enrol.vote.nz, and help shape the future of our District.

Water

If you’re based in Marton, in the dry summer months when water consumption is high, you may notice a slight change in the taste and colour of the water. This is due to algae blooms in the Tutaenui Reservoir. Don’t worry - the water is still carefully tested and is safe to drink.

If you need it, there is free filtered water available year-round outside the RSA and Citizens' Marton Memorial Hall - 415 Wellington Road, Marton 4710.

We're actively working on the Marton Water Supply Strategy project to make sure we can deliver consistent, high quality drinking water for our residents. This project is scheduled for completion in 2024/2025.
