Rates Rebates and Remissions Listen Temporary Note New Threshold Amounts 2021/22 Rating Year The new maximum rebate and income abatement thresholds for 2021/22 have been signed off by Cabinet and will come into effect on 1 July 2021. Maximum rebate $665 (was $655)Income abatement thresholds $26,510 (was $26,150) The govt.nz website, online calculator and the Electronic Rebate Management System (eRMS) have been changed to reflect this amounts. You can no longer apply for a rates rebate for the 2020/2021 rate year.* Please do not rely on the rebate to cover the 1st instalment. Rates Rebate Do you qualify for a rates rebate? A rates rebate is a partial refund for people who pay rates to the council. You must be: the person who pays the rates on the property that’s your homeliving in your homelisted as the ratepayer in the council’s Rating Information Database (RID). This database has all the information about rates and ratepayers for every property in your council’s area. You can’t apply if: your property is mainly used for commercial activities, for example farming or businessyour property is a rental property or holiday home. If you received a rebate in the previous rating year you will automatically be sent an application form from us after the first instalment has been paid. * Please do not rely on the rebate to cover the 1st instalment. If you have not applied/received a rebate in the last rating year you are welcome to phone our Customer Experience Staff who will send an application to you when they are available. The income information required will be your earnings for the previous financial year 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021 and must be included in your application form.
