Dog Adoption

Rangitīkei District Council aims to rehome dogs in need find safe, secure, and permanent homes with people who are prepared for the responsibilities of pet ownership.

Each dog is:

  • Assessed for temperament and behaviour
  • Vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered (where appropriate)
  • Matched carefully to suitable homes based on their needs

We’re looking for adopters who can offer a stable environment, regular care, and plenty of time and affection.


What you need to consider

Before registering your interest, please make sure:

  • You are allowed to keep a dog at your property (particularly if you rent)
  • You have adequate time to exercise and care for a dog daily
  • You’re ready for a long-term commitment – many dogs live 10+ years
  • The cost to adopt a dog is $250 which covers vaccination, micorchipping, neutering and a bag of dog food
